Chisinau, 28 May /MOLDPRES/ - The postponement of the today's parliament meeting, during which the head of state was to be elected, was necessary to hold additional consultations with the leaders of the three opposition parliamentary factions. Parliament Speaker Vladimir Voronin made the above statement after a closed meeting of the Party of Communists (PCRM) today. The leader of the Party of Communists said that the opposition has made no proposal so far, despite the PCRM's insistence to hold negotiations. Vladimir Voronin stressed that three people were appointed by the Communists to organise the consultations. "They ran away from these consultations. This fact proves that the influence exerted on them is much greater," Voronin said. Referring to a possible content of the opposition-PCRM negotiations, Vladimir Voronin emphasized that a government coalition is excluded, as the Party of Communists has 60 mandates. The acting president said that the PCRM declares for identifying the most important problems of society which would be at the basis of a document signed by all the parliamentary parties. Vladimir Voronin said that the example of the previous parliament could be followed, when the MPs unanimously supported the European integration and the Transnistrian conflict settlement. "Now too, the principal problems of the population are to be highlighted, and a consensus on them is to be established," Voronin said. "The opposition wants us to get them into an early election. But we do not want this, and the population does not want it either, except for certain people," the acting president said. The acting president spoke out for the consolidation of Moldova's parliamentary regime, specifying that he has a set of legislative proposals to this end. "I will not back the idea to return to a presidential regime," Vladimir Voronin said.
