Chisinau, 31 October /MOLDPRES/ - Defence Minister Valeriu Troenco and OSCE Mission to Moldova Ambassador Michael Scanlan today tackled the development of cooperation relations between the Defence Ministry and Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), including the implementation of new projects in the National Army.
Valeriu Troenco thanked the OSCE Mission for its assistance within military training programmes in the field of weapons and ammunitions stocks management and disposal of expired ammunition from the warehouses of the National Army. The officials specified the importance of these programmes for the security of the civilian population, as well as the military personnel working in the sector.
The defence minister also appreciated the organisation's role in re-qualification of the reserve military personnel from Moldova - a project launched in September 2010, as well as in carrying out public awareness campaigns on the danger of unexploded munitions in Moldova.
For his part, Ambassador Scanlan said the National Army had always been a reliable partner of the organisation, which he has been running since July. The official said the Moldovan army had taken important steps in developing programmes and projects, which contributed to the modernisation of the defence institution, as well as the reduction of the risk of explosion at ammunition depots of the National Army. This proves the interest in the values promoted by the OSCE Mission.
At the end of the meeting, the sides agreed to continue cooperation in areas of joint interest.
