Moldovan trade unions declare against increase in women's pension age from 57 to 62 years

Chisinau, 7 October /MOLDPRES/- The National Trade Unions Confederation (CNSM) declares against the increase in women's pension age from 57 to 62 years. At the same time, the Labour, Social Protection and Family Ministry says that no decision has been taken to this end for the time being.

At a today meeting on decent labour, CNSM deputy head Petru Chiriac said that ''the increase in the pension age will be a too much heavy burden for the women from Moldova. The living standards in Moldova cannot be compared to the one from the neighbouring countries, where the life expectancy exceeds 80 years. The authorities should not increase la pension age for women, as they anyway have low monthly salaries, but diminish the unregistered labour, in order to improve the citizens' social and economic situation,'' Chiriac said.

At a 6 October meeting on the issue, Labour, Social Protection and Family Minister Mircea Buga said that a decision on the age at which women are going to retire would be decided after more opinions for and against are taken into account. ''This is not at all simple process. We need a wide consensus and a multidimensional and complex approach, in order to get to a formula accepted by everybody, which is to contain compensatory social measures and strengthen a uniform pensions system,'' Buga said.

By 1 June 2015, there were over 672,000 beneficiaries of pensions in the records of the National Social Insurances House. Two thirds of the age-limit pensioners represent women.
