Moldovan Democrats, Liberals, Leanca group representatives start talks on creating new ruling alliance

Chisinau, 30 October /MOLDPRES/ - Representatives of the Democratic Party (PDM) Liberal party (PL) and Leanca group today participated in the first round of talks on the creation of a new ruling alliance. The Liberal Democratic Party refused to take part in the discussions. 

After more than an hour of discussions, all participants said that, at the meeting, that had talked about the need to continue the European path, as well as on the necessity of PLDM's participation in the formation of a new cabinet.

PDM leader Marian Lupu said: Today, a step was made in the negotiating process and we hope that the colleagues from PLDM will be part of the future alliance too, and therefore we will request that they participate in the next Monday discussions well."

The party leaders recognized that all the commitments towards the European Union must be observed, and the next government should be a majority one.

PL leader Mihai Ghimpu said that "he will not be a member of the minority government, neither of an alliance where left-wing parties would be present."

The participants in the debates for the time being have not spoken about a potential prime minister. Nevertheless, the leader of the European People's Party of Moldova, Iurie Leanca, stressed that "a functional majority must be created in a very short period of time, otherwise, it will be difficult to speak about a functional state."

The cabinet of ministers led by Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet was dismissed, under a censure motion backed by the MPs of the Democratic Party, Party of Socialists (PSRM) and Party of Communists  (PCRM). Sixty five lawmakers voted for the dismissal. President Nicolae Timofti today signed a decree on the resignation of the government and appointing of Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega as acting prime minister. 

In the context of the latest events, the embassy of the United States urged all the Moldovan political parties "to start acting in the name of the people, by quickly setting up a government and that time is ripe that they put aside all animosities and their own interests and act by cooperating for the immediate implementation of reforms."
