Chisinau, 23 March /MOLDPRES/- The executive body today approved a new draft law amending and supplementing the Article 55 of Moldova’s Criminal Code, which provides for tougher measures to combat corruption and other offenses linked to corruption, the government’s communication and press relations department has reported.

The document provides for a larger spectrum of exception offences which do not deprive individuals of criminal liability for corruption acts. According to the suggested amendments, persons accused of corrupting voters, interference in the justice and criminal investigation process, influence peddling, abuse of office or abuse of power, ultra vires, forging documents and other, will no longer be liberated from criminal liability with further contravention liability.

“We shall switch from words to concrete facts in combating corruption. It is one of our action programme’s goals and I am determined to do our best to fulfill our commitments. Fighting corruption in Moldova is directly proportional with its economic development,” Filip noted.

The draft law is part of the action plan on the implementation of the National Anti-corruption Strategy for 2011-2015.

The document is to be adopted by the parliament.
