Moldovan businessman, mayor arrested for 30 days

Chisinau, 24 June /MOLDPRES/ - Magistrates of the Buiucani district court of Chisinau today issued a warrant of arrest for 30 days for the mayor of Orhei town, Ilan Shor. He is charged with swindle in an especially large amount, money laundering and providing bad credits on the period when holding the office of chairman of the administrative board of Banca de Economii (Savings Bank, BEM).

Ilan Shor was detained for 72 hours by anticorruption officers, in a new criminal file, on 22 June. The Prosecutor General’s Office brought criminal proceedings against Shor on dubious transactions between BEM and Banca Sociala (Social Bank) back in December 2014. In May 2015, the business man was placed under house arrest for 30 days, with a status of culprit in the BEM file.
