Chisinau, June 30 /MOLDPRES/ - The Law on the reorganization of courts will be published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) issue from 1 July.

Under the document, the system of courts in Moldova will be reorganized by merging 42 courts currently operating into 15 ones.

The bill also stipulates that “the unification of courts' headquarters will be made gradually, until 31 December 2027, as conditions are created for this measure, under a plan approved by parliament, at a government’s proposal,” says the document.

The rights and obligations of merged courts will go to the court due to be set up, according to the provisions of the Civil Code of of Moldova. The Commercial District Court and Military Court cease working starting from 1 April 2017.

The draft does not bring changes to the number of judges in Moldova, but only to the number of courts. ”The reorganization proposed by the Ministry of Justice in no way refers to the number of appeal courts in the country or the Supreme Court of Justice, but only to the number of courts of first instance,” reads the law.

The document will come into force on 1 January 2017. Drafting reorganization of the law courts system is required by policy matrix - an annex to the Financing Agreement between the government and the European Union on justice reform support programme.
