Moldovan cabinet launches special programme to back women entrepreneurs

Chisinau, 27 July /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet, at a today’s meeting, approved a pilot programme, Women in Business. The document’s foremost goal is to provide financial support and advice to women in starting or developing their own business, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.  

The programme is divided into three components and will offer support at different stages of enterprise’s activity, beginning with the launch up to its development and modernization. At the same time, programmes on entrepreneurial education are to be diversified and the success stories with involvement of businesswomen are to be widely promoted.   

The measures approved back development of women’s entrepreneurship, which is still regarded as a novelty in Moldova and needs increased attention on behalf of the authorities. At the same time, women’s access to financing programmes will be facilitated and initiatives on creating entrepreneurship networks will be supported, especially of business with potential of growth, export-oriented or which produce innovations.  

Statistic data shows that women account for 51.9 of all Moldovan residents, and the rate of their employment is 36.5 per cent. At the same time, 27 per cent of all women have their own business.  

The programme is launched initially for 36 months, with implementation costs of more than 51.5 million lei. The financial resources are covered from the project on technical assistance for implementing the Deep and Comprehensive Free trade Area.  

The pilot-programme , Women in Business, will be implemented by the Organisation for Small and Medium Enterprises Sector Development.
