Chisinau, 27 September /MOLDPRES/ - The MPs of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), Party of Communists (PCRM) and Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) today submitted a motion of censure against the Filip government. The document was signed by 37 lawmakers.

According to PSRM leader Igor Dodon, the motion of censure was signed by 24 Socialist MPs, five PCRM lawmakers and eight PLDM ones. “According to the available information, the Standing Bureau till later this week will analyze the subject on the date of holding the parliament meeting, during which the motion of censure will be considered. We hope that, meanwhile, other lawmakers will sign the document as well,” Dodon said.

The decision to file a motion of censure against the Filip government was taken after the cabinet on 26 September had ruled to take responsibility before parliament for seven laws referring to the financial and banking sector, as well as to converting into state debt of the emergency loans given by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) to the three banks that were liquidated. All the draft laws were coordinated with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is to examine a new programme for Moldova in next October.

Also today, Prime Minister Pavel Filip unveiled to parliament the laws on which the government took responsibility. Filip noted that the government ”resorted to this formula, as there is no more time; there is a month left till the meeting of the IMF Executive Board. If we choose the classical formula, we will not manage to adopt the concerned laws and unlock the financing of IMF and European Union,” Pavel Filip said.

Under the parliament’s regulation, a motion of censure on the government’s work can be initiated by at least one fourth of all the elected MPs. The motion is subjected to discussion on the first day of plenary meeting one week after the document was submitted and is adopted with the votes of the majority of the lawmakers elected.
