Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDPRES/- The Regional Development and Construction Ministry and Czech Development Agency today launched a project “Eurocodes implementation in Moldova and increase access to standards”, which will be conducted jointly in 2017-2018. The project aims at backing Moldova in using Eurocodes for construction and structural products in the field relevant to the European economic area.

Regional Development and Constructions Minister Vasile Bitca said that the Czech Republic would provide 200,000 euros for implementing Eurocodes and increasing quality in construction. “We already have experience of cooperation within regional projects and we are glad we benefit from support of the Czech government in this project on capacity building institutions in the country, involved in designing, manufacturing construction materials and engineering”, he said.

Also, Bitca pointed out that the implementation of EU technical regulations and Eurocodes in Moldova would contribute to essential transformation of the national system of normative documents in construction.

Attending the event, Czech Ambassador to Moldova Zdeněk Krejčí noted that the project’s goal was to back the country in implementing European procedures for designing construction structures. Using European standards in construction will facilitate the access of foreign investors to the Moldovan market and will contribute to the participation of construction companies in international projects, the diplomat said.

For his part, department head of the ministry Gheorghe Croitoru said “adjustment of Eurocodes and technical regulations in construction will enable construction companies in the country to participate in works in other countries, not only with workforce but also with the corporate contracts. Also, the construction companies will participate in international tenders held in Moldova, which are based on European norms and standards. At the same time, application of the Eurocodes will allow reduction in the price for flats in housing buildings”, Croitoru also said.

According to data by the ministry, currently European countries use 58 Eurocodes in ten areas, including construction.
