Chisinau, 09 March /MOLDPRES/ – An information centre will be opened to tourists for the first time in Chisinau. In this regard, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed today by the National Association for Tourism of Moldova Receiver (ANTRIM) and Chisinau City Hall.

The project is developed and implemented with the support of the EU funded program "Support to Confidence Building Measures", implemented by UNDP and Competitiveness of Moldova Project financed by USAID and the Government of Sweden.

In the event of signing the document, President ANTRIM, Emilian Dzugas, said that the opening of such a centre was essential to the development of tourism in Moldova. "The trends of growth in the number of foreign tourists visiting Moldova has boosted ANTRIM to develop a project so that to create the first modern information centre, where visitors will be directed to the discovery of tourism potential on both sides of the Dniester. On this platform, there will be promoted tourist attractions, most interesting routes in the country, cultural events, etc.," said Emilian Dzugas.

However, Project Director of Competitiveness of Moldova, Doina Nistor said that "by creating the Information Centre for Tourists, tourist offer of the country will become better known and more accessible, which will contribute to the attractiveness of national tourism products, increase the number of tourists and thus to the development of this economy branch."

At his part, UNDP project manager, Andrei Darie said that due to EU financial support, Tiraspol, soon would open a similar centre. "The two institutions will cooperate closely. The visitors will have the opportunity to inform themselves on the tourist offer on the left bank from the reliable sources of information, discover new places and benefit from specialized services," noted Andrei Darie.

The Tourist Information Centre will be in the capital City Hall. Its official inauguration will take place in May this year, on the eve of the European Tourism and Strategy Festival, which will run from 31 May to 03 June.
