First issue of Japanese film festival held in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 19 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Embassy of Japan in Chisinau organized the first issue of the Japanese film festival in Moldova, held at the Odeon Cultural Centre from the Moldovan capital on 17-18 March.

The event took place on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Moldova and Japan.

Attending the official opening was Japanese Ambassador to Moldova Masanobu Yoshii. The diplomat of Japan said that, in August 2016, when he came to Chisinau, he had thought to organize more cultural actions, as culture is at the basis of the friendship between the two peoples.  

According to the official, some Japanese traditions, such as Anime, Manga and Ikebana, are known in Moldova. “This time, we ruled to organize a festival of the Japanese film, within which we came with three films, for different tastes and age categories, which present the Japanese culture,” Masanobu Yoshii said.  

During two days, the film, The Chef of South Pole, Chibi Maruko Chan and Shodo Girls were screened at the Odeon centre during two days. The movies were with subtitles in the Romanian and English languages. Between the films, visitors had possibility to experience Japanese cultural traditions: ikebana (Flower arrangement) Origami and Shodo (calligraphy).   

The diplomatic relations between Moldova and Japan were set on 16 March 1992.
