Moldovan government extends by three months term of recording vehicles with foreign registration plates in special conditions

Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers, at a today’s meeting, extended the term for customs clearance of vehicles with foreign registration plates in special conditions. Thus, at a proposal by Prime Minister Pavel Filip, the transport means introduced in Moldova till 1 November 2016 could be registered in the country till 1 July 2017, by paying of 30 per cent of the excise duties, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

“I came up with a request to the Finance Ministry on the topic of extending the term of recording the vehicles with foreign registration plates. Three months ago, we took a right decision and gave possibility to all those having vehicles registered outside Moldova to record these cars at home, with a 70-per cent cut in the tax,” the PM said.     

Pavel Filip also said that there and been more difficulties identified in the Security Zone, which caused the registration of vehicles from the Transnistrian region with delay. Thus, the prime minister proposed to prolong the period, in order to remove the present barriers and give possibility to an ever larger number of people to benefit from the tax cut.

So far, more than 14,300 touring cars have been registered in Moldova with a 70-per cent reduction of excise duties, of which 1,200 were registered in the Transnistrian region. At the same time, according to data by the Finance Ministry, about 320 million lei was collected from the registration of vehicles with foreign plates and the number of requests is on the rise.
