Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/- Depositors of the Savings Bank (Banca de Economii) born up to 1991 will receive this year payment of the indexed amount for the first loss compensation step. The government decision will be published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 26 May.

Under the decision, depositors born up to 1936 will benefit from payment of indexed amount for the second stage.

Under the Law on State Budget 2017, 40 million lei was allocated to compensate for loss of savings of citizens in the Savings Bank.

According to the law, the deposits of Moldovans in the Savings Bank are indexed, both those in force and those renewed on 29 July 1994 in the ratio of 1 ruble: 1 leu. The indexation of the amounts is carried out at the request of the depositors in stages. In case of death of the depositor, his/her legal heirs are paid the unpaid balance of the indexed amounts.

The depositors of the Savings Bank, as well as their heirs will be able to receive their money through the state-owned enterprise “Posta Moldovei”.

Payment of the indexed amounts started in 2003, and so far for this purpose about 700 million lei has been earmarked from the state budget.
