Goods volume carried in Moldova increase significantly in first half of 2017

Chisinau, 27 July /MOLDPRES/ - The volume of goods carried by enterprises of railway, road, river and air transport increased by 22.5 per cent in the first of 2017 against the same period of the year before, up to 6.57 million tons. The growth announced the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry (MEI) is described as one of the highest in the last years.  

Data put out by the ministry’s analysis and macroeconomic forecast directorate shows that, in the first six months of this year, the volume of goods carried by air doubled. The railway and motor transports recorded significant increases of 33 and, respectively, 19 per cent. More than 69 per cent of goods were carried by road transport enterprises.  

The number of people who benefited from air transport services increased significantly – by 55.3 per cent. On the other hand, the number of passengers who used the road transport decreased by 2.1 per cent and number of ones who used the railway transport dropped by about 24 per cent.

Economics Ministry’s specialists said that the evolution of the transport was influenced, to a great extent, by the improvement of the economic situation in Moldova, increase in exports and imports of goods, as well as by the increase in the volume of goods transited.
