Moldova, Georgia pronounce for intensification of bilateral relations

Chisinau, 20 September /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, met with his Georgian counterpart, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, in the context of attending the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York, today. The talks focused on the current state of bilateral relations and the possibilities of activating the Moldovan-Georgian dialogue, including within international organizations.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the head of Chisinau Executive uotlined the close ties between Moldova and Georgia, dating over 25 years since establishment of diplomatic relations, deciding to continue the exchange of experience and expertise in key areas and deepening cooperation in the Eastern Partnership. Also, Pavel Filip noted the good cooperation between Moldova and Georgia on the European integration segment, emphasizing that mutual takeover of good practices in the internal affairs, justice and defence sectors would contribute to the implementation of the European Agenda of both states.

In other order of ideas, the Georgian Prime Minister confirmed Georgia's readiness to support Moldova in order to include the subject on the withdrawal of foreign troops from the territory of Moldova on the agenda of the session of the UN General Assembly.

Also, Prime Ministers, Filip and Kvirikashvili, pronounced upon the need to intensify efforts to capitalize on the commercial and economic potential between Moldova and Georgia, mentioning, in the context, the successful holding of the first meeting of the Moldovan-Georgian intergovernmental commission for commercial-economic cooperation. The officials also proved to be open to joint investment projects, creation of joint ventures and cooperation in diversifying energy sources.
