Romanian president says friend of Moldova, sees it oriented towards West

Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu met President of Romania Klaus Iohannis at the Cotroceni Palace in Bucharest today, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.  

The officials reviewed the latest developments and achievements regarding the European agenda of Moldova, as well as other aspects of the foreign and domestic policy.

“We are Europeans and our vocation is to be in the European Union. It is not easy for us to go the European way; yet, it would be much more difficult for us without Romania. Thank you for support,” the Moldovan parliament speaker said.

For his part, President Iohannis appreciated the efforts of the Moldovan government.

“The way you, the parliamentary majority, the governance present yourself make us happy. The government does its job calmly and it is very important that substantive results appear. Therefore, we have approved the providing of the last installment of the loan. The only thing we are interested in is that Moldova does well. You may rely on us in continuation. Moldova is quite close to my soul. I am a friend of Moldova and I see it oriented towards the West.”    

Andrian Candu and Klaus Iohannis made a review also of the projects on the interconnection of the electro-energy system between Moldova and Romania and the gas pipeline Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau, declared as public usefulness by the Moldovan authorities. The president of Romania encouraged the advancement of the projects’ implementation.  

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu is on a working visit to Romania, where he participated in the Aspen Energy Summit and had a meeting with the speakers of the two chambers of the Romanian parliament.
