Moldovan industrial output increases by 6.4 per cent in August

Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/- Industrial output rose by 6.4 per cent in August against the same period of the previous year as gross series and by 7.0 per cent as adjusted by number of working days and seasonality, according to data by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS), released today.

The industry returned to stronger growth after a 0.2 per cent decline in June and July and a 1.6 per cent rise in gross series. The most significant increase was achieved in April, when industrial production increased by 9.3 per cent.

BNS notes that growing development of industry in August was driven by 6.4 per cent increase in manufacturing and 11.1 per cent in production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning. At the same time, there was a 1 per cent decrease in extractive industry.

BNS data show that the industrial production increased by 1.4 per cent in nine months compared to the same period of the previous year, gross series, and 3.5 per cent, adjusted series, depending on the number of working days and seasonality.

The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure forecasts an increase in industrial production by 6 per cent reaching 50.8 billion lei for 2017.
