First meeting of inter-ministerial committee in Diaspora, migration, development sectors held in Moldova

Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ - The first meeting of the inter-ministerial committee in the sectors of Diaspora, migration and development (CIDMD) took place today. The event, organized by the State Chancellery, through the Diaspora Relations Bureau (BRD), brought together representatives of the central public administration and development partners, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

The goal of the meeting was to familiarize the participants with a mechanism of coordinating the state policy in the fields of Diaspora, migration and development, as well as with possibilities to implement it. Thus, the Committee will have the task to formulate strategic visions in the Diaspora and migration sector for medium and long term, validate the strategies and development plans, ensure the implementation of the actions from the government’s national development programmes.

During discussions, Government Deputy Secretary General Valentin Guznac expressed confidence that the newly created platform would ensure and efficient communication and coordination of the policies in the sectors of Diaspora, migration and development, thus enhancing the positive effects of the international migration phenomenon on the sustainable development of Moldova. At the same time, Valentin Guznac noted that, according to the strategic vision, by 2025, Moldova would become a country with a friendly environment of civic, social, economic and political manifestation for all its citizens and an attractive destination of return for the Diaspora members.      

In the context, the head of the mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Moldova, Antonio Polosa, said that Moldova had made significant progress in the development of the vision and normative framework for ensuring the practical integration of the migration in the national development strategies.    

The inter-ministerial committee in the sectors of Diaspora, migration and development was set up on 8 September 2017, under the government decision No 725 on the mechanism of coordinating the state policy in the fields of Diaspora, migration and development. This platform is made up of by one representative with leadership office from ministries and central administrative authorities.
