Moldovan, Ukrainian premiers discuss bilateral ties by phone

Chisinau, 23 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today afternoon had a phone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Groysman. The officials discussed the latest developments in the fulfillment of the commitments on the bilateral agenda and prospects for development of the Moldovan-Ukrainian ties, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.     

In the beginning of the conversation, Pavel Filip congratulated Volodymyr Groysman on the 25th anniversary of the signing of the treaty on good-neighbour, friendship and cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine. The Moldovan PM expressed confidence that the bilateral relations would further develop in the interest of both countries’ citizens.    

In the context, Prime Minister Pavel Filip stressed the importance of implementing the bilateral documents, recently signed in Chisinau. In particular, he noted that Moldova was at the final stage of carrying out the procedures of entrance into force of the agreement on the joint control of persons, transport means, goods and objects at the joint Moldovan-Ukrainian border checkpoints.    

At the same time, Prime Ministers Pavel Filip and Volodymyr Groysman referred to actions needed to foster the procedure of demarcation of the state border between Moldova and Ukraine, highlighting the importance of resuming the work of the joint commission for demarcation, which held a meeting in Chisinau on 17-18 October 2017. In this respect, the sides underlined the necessity of identifying, in the budgets of both countries, the financial resources needed to continue the demarcation process.   

The prime ministers also exchanged opinions on the cooperation in the field of protection of the ecosystem and sustainable development of the Dniester river basin, finding the best solutions for liberalizing the relations between the two countries in the international road transport field, on preparations for the opening of a bridge between the settlements Unguri and Bronnitsya for the movement of vehicles.
