Programme on prevention, control of diabetes for 2017-2021 to be published in Moldova's Official Journal

Chisinau, 7 December /MOLDPRES/ - The national programme on the prevention and control of diabetes for 2017-2021 will be published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) of Moldova on 8 December. The document’s goal is to prevent residents’ falling sick with diabetes and reduce the death rate caused by this disease.  

Under the document, authorities will improve measures of preventing the diabetes by early diagnosing of chronic complications, ceasing their progression by proper treatment and providing rehabilitation methods. Also, measures will be undertaken to improve the medical assistance provided; medical centres will be endowed with modern equipment and the medical staff will benefit from qualification courses.    

Among the goals set in the programme, there is a ten-per cent cut in the number of people with high risk of developing diabetes and a 20-per cent reduction of the death rate in persons sick with diabetes through cardiovascular diseases. According to the document, people ill with diabetes will be compulsorily provided with pharmacological treatment.   

The national programme on tobacco control for 2017-2021 and an action plan on its implementation will be published in the Official Journal on 8 December too. Under this document, the authorities are set to establish a national system of monitoring tendencies of morbidity and death rate triggered by the consumption of tobacco articles, residents’ informing and education about the harm caused by the smoking, initiating programmes on counseling for smokers, as well as of treating the tobacco addiction. Other goals set regard the ban of people younger than 18 from access to tobacco products and related products, as well as the reduction of the illegal import of tobacco products.     

Also, an action plan for 2017-2020 on the implementation of the strategy on strengthening the inter-ethnic relations in Moldova for 2017-2027 will also be published in the 8 December issue of the Official Journal. The priority actions concern four sectors: public life, language as means of integration, inter-cultural dialogue and civic affiliation to the state Republic of Moldova, mass media.

The authorities will take actions to encourage the participation of all citizens, equally, in the state administration and public service and will create friendly prerequisites for the inter-cultural education. Also, actions will be undertaken to ensure the protection and development of the national minorities’ languages, as well as of the promotion of the linguistic diversity.    

About 4.7 million lei is planned for the implementation of the action plan for 2017-2020. The money will be earmarked from the state budget and foreign assistance, within the limits of the resources available.
