Romanian government to provide 10 million-euro-grant for cleaning, arranging Bac riverbed

Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/- The Romanian government will provide the Chisinau city hall with a grant of 10 million euros for the cleaning and arrangement of the Bâc riverbed. Acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu made the statement today.

According to the authorities, in March this year, a government decision will be passed to regulate the transmission of the funds. "The Bâc River is one of the most degraded and polluted rivers in our country. I want to thank the Romanian people for all the help given to Chisinau. The Government of Romania is ready to provide 10 million euros for the Bâc River's arrangement and cleaning. It's a matter that has been talked about for many years, I'm talking about the floods on Albişoara street,” Codreanu said.

The project was presented by the head of the general housing and planning department, Ion Burdiumov.

"The measures aim at reducing floods and droughts on the vulnerable areas of the Bâc riverbed. Also in the section of Mihai Viteazul Street and Feredeului Street, adjacent land will be arranged by planting trees and shrubs, arranging alleys, bicycle tracks, installation of lighting and street furniture,” he said.

This year, an environmental impact study will be carried out. Also, the technical documentation of the project, the plan of flood and drought danger measures will be elaborated. In total, the project provides for the cleaning of 44 km of the river, and over 2 km will be strengthened. At the same time, three hydrotechnical structures for water retention and control will be built.
