Chisinau hosts 15th meeting of Moldovan-Russian commission on economic cooperation

Chisinau, 20 September /MOLDPRES/- On 18-19 September, Chisinau hosted the 15th meeting of the Moldovan-Russian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation, in which senior officials of the ministries, departments and other executive bodies of the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation participated, and as observers of the Moldovan delegation were included the experts from Tiraspol, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.

According to the agenda, the first working day of the Commission was dedicated to the interaction at expert level in order to elaborate and finalize the report of the 15th meeting of the Commission, and on the second day the plenary session took place and the key aspects of bilateral cooperation in the commercial-economic sphere and the signing of the report of the meeting.

In the dialogue at the level of heads and rapporteurs from each delegation it was welcomed to resume the activities of the Commission after a pause of about 3 years (the previous meeting took place on November 29, 2016, in Moscow). Also, it was noted the availability of advancing the cooperation to new levels focused on quality and concrete results, emphasizing the existence of a great potential for development, as well as the need to boost Moldovan-Russian relations, with the promotion of mutually advantageous projects.

The agenda of the plenary session of the commission included issues related to economic problems, food security and phytosanitary rules, cooperation in energy, agri-food, transport, construction, cooperation in industry, science and innovation, etc.

The sides confirmed their intention to develop and deepen bilateral relations on the principles of equality, mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation, based on pragmatism, predictability and respect for the interests of the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation, and expressed their intention to take significant actions to remove barriers to trade and create good conditions in this regard.

It is worth noting that 169 treaties have been signed between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation so far in various fields.

Moldova’s foreign trade with Russia in January-June 2019 was 462.9 million dollars, up by 7.4% against the same period of 2018. According to the systematic data, the export is 114.45 million dollars, increasing by 7.0 million dollars, and the import is 348.46 million dollars.

The plenary meeting of the Commission was chaired by Vasilii Sova, Deputy Prime Minister, head of the Moldovan side of the Commission and Dmitri Patrusev, head of the Russian side of the Moldovan-Russian intergovernmental Commission, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
