Over 70 thousand persons attend National Wine Day in Moldova

Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ – Over 70 thousand persons participated in the National Wine Day, 18th issue, organised in the first weekend of October in the centre of Chisinau. Being the only national holiday dedicated to wine in the world, it has attracted thousands of tourists, and the winemakers have sold over 80 thousand bottles of wine. The data were provided by the National Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV), which presented in figures how it was marked the biggest holiday dedicated to wine in Eastern Europe.

This year, the event brought together a record number of 68 winemakers gathered under the national wine brand – Wine of Moldova. A living legend.  In addition to over 80 thousand bottles of wine products sold, the producers present at the event managed to fill more than 45 thousand times the glasses of those who purchased the Tasting Card. In order to offer guests a guided experience in the Great National Assembly (PMAN), there were organised tours to wineries stands in the square by 42 guides, which accompanied over 400 tourists.

This year, the wineries of Moldova opened their doors for about nine thousand visitors, who purchased over 13 thousand bottles of wine at the producer price and tasted another 900 bottles. The wineries offered them a gourmet treat and a tailor – made cultural programme, and guests were convinced that Moldova is a wine tourism destination worth visiting.

As far as, it is the only national holiday dedicated to wine in the world, the National Wine Day, celebrated in Moldova, attracts thousands of tourists yearly. Only at the Chisinau International Airport (AIC), in the days preceding the holiday, four thousand foreigners received bottles of wine as a Welcome!, along with a free prepay card, with minutes included. For the first time, this year, every tourist who came to Moldova, on the eve of the National Wine Day, received an SMS message inviting him to participate in the celebration.

The event was also attended by 83 journalists from 14 states, such as Belgium, France, Austria, Finland, USA, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, China, Czechia, Italy, Poland, Korea and Japan.

The statistical data shows that over 200,000 people in Moldova work on the creation of Moldovan wines, over 29,000 companies are active in sector of wine and wine tourism, and the wine sector represents almost 1/5 of the value created by the agrifood industry.
