Residents of Gagauzia celebrate Kasim today

Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/- Residents of Gagauzia celebrate today Kasim, traditionally marked on the day when the Orthodox Christians feast on St. Dumitru.
Kasim popular holiday in Gagauzia means completion of harvest and winter preparation.
The main event will be held on 10 November in Comrat, where the Gagauz Wine Festival "Gagauz sherap yortusu" will take place.
"Kasim is an important event in the Gagauz holiday calendar, which symbolizes not only the end of the agrarian season, but also the love of the Gagauz people for the country and its land, hospitality and hard work," governor of Gagauzia Irina Vlah said.
According to a decision of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia, 8 November is declared day off in autonomy.
Holidays Kasim, Hederlez, Pipiruda etc. were included in a project to safeguard the Gagauz language and cultural traditions in the Republic of Moldova, initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research with the support of the US Embassy in Chisinau.
