Eight water reservoirs constructed on Dniester within project backed by Germany

Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/ - Eight water reservoirs have been set in settlements on the bank of the Dniester river, within a project implemented by the Centru Regional Development Agency (ADR Centru), with the financial support of the German government, through the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).    

The works have been carried out within the project titled, Inter-communal management of water resources on Dniester, implemented in the localities Cocieri, Cosnita, Parata, Dorotcaia, Oxentea from the eastern Dubasari district, as well as in the villages of Doibani and Comisarovca Noua of the Transnistrian region.  

The goal of this project was to reduce to minimum the losses of water and the spending related to the repair and maintenance of the worn-out reservoirs, to increase the stocking capacity. “Thus, the residents were provided with stable supply and pressure of drinking water. This ambitious project is expected to provide also an improvement of the health indexes of the citizens from the concerned region,” sources from ADR Centru informed.   

The German government delegated GIZ to implement this project in a region which comprises 24 urban and rural settlements, with a population of about 76,000 residents. The project’s intervention area comprises the central zone of the Dniester river basin on both banks, on the territory of the Dubasari and Criuleni districts (Security Zone), as well as the administrative unit of the Dubasari town, Transnistrian region.         

„The GIZ project, Inter-communal management of water resources on Dniester, relies on the implementation of a project on changing the situation in the water and sewerage supply sector existing in the region, through participatory development, improving the infrastructure based on strengthening the inter-municipal management framework,” according to ADR Centru.   

The project is also meant to contribute to the dialogue with the potential development partners, presenting a clear-cut image of the investment needs and prospect for development in the water and sanitation supply field in the region.

The value of the project carried out on Dniester is of about four million lei.
