Chisinau, 11 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Party of Socialists (PSRM) insists that the cabinet withdraws the draft law which provides for changing the way of pre-selecting the candidates for the office of prosecutor general, approved by taking responsibility.

A PSRM lawmaker, Vasile Bolea, informed about the decision after a meeting of the Socialists’ parliamentary faction. “PSRM reiterates the same idea which we launched last week: the only way out of this crisis is the withdrawal of the draft on taking responsibility. Otherwise, the motion of censure will be considered at the next parliament meeting,” Bolea said.

According to Bolea, the fact that Prime Minister Maia Sandu today suggested that the draft be submitted to the Venice Commission for expert examination shows that “there was no urgency for the government to assume responsibility.”

At the same time, according to Vasile Bolea, the Venice Commission does not give opinion on laws which have already entered into force, but only on draft laws which are to be adopted by parliaments of sovereign states.

The Socialists’ reaction comes after PM Maia Sandu today had suggested a solution to the current political situation emerged in Moldova. The prime minister said that the draft on which the government had taken responsibility would be submitted to the Venice Commission for expert examination and the short list of candidates for the office of prosecutor general would be presented only after the Commission’s opinion in received.
