Moldovan PM participates in meeting of Economic Council under Prime Minister

Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/ - A meeting of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister, chaired by PM Ion Chicu, took place at the government today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

Attending the meeting were also Economics and Infrastructure Minister Anatol Usatii, Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu, Interior Minister Pavel Voicu, Defence Minister Victor Gaiciuc, Education, Culture and Research Minister Corneliu Popovici, as well as heads of public institutions.    

In the beginning of the meeting, the prime minister said: “The dialogue between   the government and the business community is essential for the development of Moldova’s economy. The priority goals on this dimension are the creation of a predictable business climate, which secures the investments. The government will support the creation of jobs and investments in the economy’s modernization.”  

The PM reiterated that the current cabinet would definitively focus on the social and economic problems and almost 40 per cent of the government’s agenda was meant for meeting investors.  

”We will quickly advance on the justice reform and we will focus attention on the development of infrastructure. These are the most important requirements of the foreign investors, who are ready to do business in Moldova,” Ion Chicu said.

The prime minister enumerated a string of initiatives of the government, meant to encourage the entrepreneurial activity, such as massive investments in the road infrastructure, scheduled for 2020 or the establishment of the office of Business Ombudsman, who has the task to simplify and optimize the process of business management in Moldova.   

In the context, the PM urged entrepreneurs to actively get involved and come up with proposals which would improve the quality of the dialogue between the business environment and the authorities.

The representatives of the business associations and business environment enumerated a string of actions which might improve the business climate, among which: diminution of the quota of the value added tax (VAT) for the HORECA sector, capping the tariffs at the online payments, threats triggered by the licence entrepreneurial work, digitalization of the medical services, de-monopolization of the oncological services, working out norms meant to remove the food prodigality, transparency of the work of the National Health Insurances Company, etc.     

In the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Chicu said that he had taken note of all ideas formulated by the participants in the meeting and asked the council’s secretariat to include the subjects tackled in the Action Plan for 2020.  

About 90 representatives of the business environment and partner institutions in Moldova’s development participated in the meeting. Mila Malairau from the American Chamber of Commerce from Moldova, Sergiu Harea of the Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the executive director of the Employers, Vlad Caminschi, Ana Groza from the Foreign Investors Association and the head of the Secretariat of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister, Ion Lupan, as well as other business personalities and from the associative sector took part in the meeting.
