Moldovan premier visits Balti city hall

Chisinau, 13 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today visited the Balti city hall, where he had a discussion with the heads of the city hall’s subdivisions, the mayor, deputy mayors, as well as the city’s residents, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The Balti mayor tackled important subjects, such as the change of the status of the Balti municipality, problem of insufficiency of the ground for the collection of waste and the effects triggered, quality of the roads’ infrastructure in the city, modernization of the North Thermal-Electric Power Station and cost of the thermal energy, problems of the municipal enterprise Apa-Canal Balti, policies of paying salaries to the civil servants of the local public authorities and the issue of unused public real estate assets.      

The prime minister informed the city hall’s decision-makers about the situation of the national economy and the tendencies found out in January 2020. The revenues to the national public budget were by 15 percentage points higher than in January 2019. About 96.6 percentage points of the state’s needs are covered with the revenues generated by the national economy and the dependence on the non-refundable assistance of the development partners is low. The government’s programme for 2020 provides for massive investments in the restoration of the road infrastructure, among which the capital repair of the Balti-Criva road, of maximal importance for the region’s residents. The cabinet has a plan on the construction of the national infrastructure meant to collect and process the solid waste. The project is backed by EU’s financial institutions with funds worth about 100 million euros. The salaries’ reform sees adjusting of the salaries of the civil servants of the local public authorities (APL), which will increase in several stages.  

The PM reconfirmed the technocrat approach of the government and ruled out the politicizing of the attitude towards APL. The prime minister answered questions by APL representatives.

Ion Chicu also went to the Balti-based Multi-functional Centre of the Public Services Agency (ASP), in order to familiarize with the process of getting driver’s licences. The centre’s leadership informed about the existence of queues at the scheduling for the practical driving exam to get the B category. In the last 30 days, the queues shortened from 2.5 to 1.5 months. Decision-makers gave assurances that, on the next period, actions would be undertaken to cut the queues.
