Moldovan diplomacy head discusses with European Commissioner for Justice

Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Oleg Tulea today held a videoconference on the justice reform in Moldova with European Commissioner Didier Reynders. The two officials tackled prospects of operationalizing the European Prosecutor’s Office and strengthening the cooperation in the sector of personal data protection.  

According to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service, the officials highlighted the importance of the justice reform in the context of the Moldova-European Union collaboration. Oleg Tulea referred to the recent developments as to the promotion of the constitutional amendments and working out the strategy of ensuring the independence and integrity in the justice sector for 2021-2024. The Moldovan diplomacy head welcomed the European Commission experts’ willingness to participate in the looking for solutions to fulfill the commitments taken by Moldova in the dialogue with the foreign partners.   

Touching upon the European Prosecutor’s Office, Commissioner Didier Reynders informed about the process of launch of this European institution, which is to start working till late 2020.  

At the discussion, Minister Oleg Tulea reiterated Moldova’s interest of the procedure of recognition by the European Commission of the meeting of the proper level of protection of personal data. The concerned recognition would help more efficiently use the opportunities provided by the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with EU.  

At the end of the discussion, the foreign affairs minister spoke about preparations for the presidential elections due in Moldova. Oleg Tulea reiterated the authorities’ commitment to hold the ballot in accordance with the international standards.
