Moldovan electoral body establishes peculiarities of exercising right to vote at presidential polls

Chisinau, 17 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC), at a today’s meeting, specified the peculiar conditions which regulate the exercising of the right to vote at the presidential polls due on 1 November 2020.   

Thus, the voters who are not registered at their domicile and/or have expired residence will be able to vote by being registered in the additional electoral list. This category of electors is obliged to fill in and sign a declaration on their own responsibility on abstaining from multiple voting, the CEC press service has reported.   

If the voter has both domicile and residence, on the period of the residence’s validity, he/she votes in the settlement where having the residence.   

The citizens who are on the voting day in hospitals, spas, rest homes, placed in another settlement than their permanent place of residence, can vote by being included in additional electoral lists. And if the aforementioned institutions are in the same district with the domicile/residence, they will be included in the lists for voting at the place of their stay.   

The people detained based on a warrant arrest till the issuance of the judge’s sentence, the people sentenced to imprisonment, whose sentence is not final, those who serve a civil sanction in form of arrest, people sentenced to imprisonment under final ruling of judge, who are in penitentiaries, will vote by being included in additional electoral lists or, as a case may be, in the lists for voting at the place of their stay.  

The people against whom a preventive measure in form of home arrest is imposed can vote at the place of their stay through the mobile ballot box, with informing the electoral bureau of the polling station from the respective area and the bodies which exercise the control over the observance of the preventive measure.   

At the same time, the people who serve in the army can vote at the polling station from the settlement where the military unit is placed, the CEC added.
