Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/ - A decrease in the number of cases of infection with COVID-19 is registered in the Moldovan capital and on the next period, more sections meant for these patients will be closed. The Chisinau general mayor, Ion Ceban, made statements to this effect today.

According to Ceban, there are about 500 free beds for COVID-19 patients in the municipal hospitals. The block from the Phthisio-pneomology Hospital with 150 beds was closed. The old maternity block from the Gheorghe Paladi Hospital, with 110 beds, will be closed this week too.

„If we have the same situation, next week, several sections with 150 beds will be closed at more hospitals, meant for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. At the same time, the number of cases of infection with Covid-19 in children is in a major diminution, respectively: the Valentin Ignatenco municipal hospital for children today ceases the hospitalization of children suspect with coronavirus. At the same time, the Hospital of Infectious Diseases for Children will hospitalize all suspect children and those confirmed with Covid-19; the hospital has a capacity of over 100 beds and 30 ones are occupied at present. All these units, which are released, will be re-specialized into sections of post-Covid rehabilitation,’’ Ceban said.

Ion Ceban noted that, if the epidemiological situation was worsening, the beds from these hospitals would be re-activated in just 24-48 hours.

The Chisinau mayor also said that over 4,000 people had been immunized at the municipal vaccination centre so far. Among them, there are teachers, employees of the Urban Park of Buses and Trolley Buses.

Also, immunization takes place also at those 19 vaccination points from Chisinau at the headquarters of family physicians’ centres. On 19-25 April, the vaccination of teachers from schools and pre-school institutions, extra-school education centres, art, sport lyceums, including the private one, will be completed. The vaccination process will be organized also on Saturday and Sunday, depending on vaccines’ availability.
