Second batch of Sputnik-V vaccines brought to Chisinau

Chisinau, 30 April /MOLDPRES/ - The second batch of 71,000 doses Sputnik-V anti-COVID-19 vaccines were brought to Chisinau today evening. The consignment is part of the 142,000 doses, provided to Moldova as humanitarian assistance by Russia. Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii attended the event on the reception of the vaccines at the Chisinau International Airport, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The speaker thanked Russia for the support and assistance provided to Moldova. ‘’We thank the Russian leadership and nation for the second consignment received, as well as for the possibility of immunization given to Moldova’s citizens,’’ the official said. According to the speaker, the people can overcome the pandemic crisis and protect themselves only through vaccination.    

In the context, Zinaida Greceanii informed that she was determined to be vaccinated with the Sputnik-V vaccine on the next period. At the same time, the parliament speaker noted that the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry was negotiating the purchasing of new batches of Russian vaccines with budget’s funds.    

Attending the event, Ambassador of Russia to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov reiterated Russia’s support for Moldova. The diplomat also said that a new consignment of vaccines was expected. ‘’We hope that the delivery of Sputnik-V vaccines will help the people of this country and they, for their part, should have possibility to choose the vaccine and create a collective immunity,’’ the Russian ambassador stressed.   

Those 71,000 doses of vaccine were carried by air as humanitarian assistance provided to Moldova by Russia. Some of the vaccines, i.e. 31,000 doses, will be brought to the left bank of Dniester; the other 40,000 will be transported to the warehouse of the National Public Health Agency. On 26 April, Moldova received the first consignment of 71,000 anti-coronavirus vaccines Sputnik-V. The process of vaccination with the new vaccines will start next week.   

Attending the today’s event were also the state secretary at the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, Igor Curov, and the leader of the Party of Socialists, Igor Dodon.
