Chisinau, 11 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today afternoon met Bucharest-based Ambassador of Ireland to Moldova Paul McGarry, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state said the two states had close relations both at the bilateral, at the European, as well as at the inter-human levels, and this due to a large community of Moldovans who live in Ireland.

„We discussed, in this context, the need to extend the services of the Irish low-cost companies in Moldova, as well as the importance to start negotiations on the facilitation of the visa regime. These are actions which can help our citizens and, at the same time, can contribute to the boosting of the commercial changes and attraction of more Irish investors to the national economy,’’ Maia Sandu said.

Also, the sides referred to possibility to resume discussions on several draft agreements: mutual protection and promotion of investments; cooperation in the tourism sector; reciprocal administrative assistance in the customs field; cultural cooperation and recognition of the conversion of the driver’s licences.

„I thanked Ireland for the bilateral support provided to Moldova, as well as within the dialogue with the European Union. At the same time, we agreed on thinking about a cooperation on the dimension of attracting the Diaspora home, as Ireland has a rich experience in this respect,’’ President Maia Sandu added.
