Average harvest of wheat about 4.5 tons per one hectare in Moldova

Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/ - Farmers from Moldova are in the full swing of harvesting the first-group crops, summer vegetables and fruits. At the same time, after two weeks of harvest, an average wheat harvest of 4.5 tons per one hectare is recorded.   

According to information provided by the subdivisions in charge of the farming sector of the district councils, given the specific weather conditions, the campaign of harvesting the first-group cereals and other crops started with a delay of two weeks.  

Thus, wheat has been harvested from an area of about 59,000 hectares so far, with the overall harvest staying at 268,414 tons, an average productivity on the country of 4.5 tons per one hectare.    

At the same time, the situation in terms of harvesting differs from one district to another, both as regards the areas and volume, as well as productivity. ‘’As much as 23,400 tons of wheat have been harvested in the Orhei district, 20,250 tons in the Ungheni district, 19,238 tons in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, up to 6,000-8,000 tons in Edinet, Drochia, Cahul, etc., with an average preliminary productivity of 5.5 tons/hectare (Criuleni), 5 tons/ha (Drochia, Falesti), 4.9 tons/ha (Floresti), up to 3.8 tons/ha in Orhei,’’ says the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MARDM).      

Also, preliminary information shows that the barley has been harvested from an area of about 37,054 hectares, with the overall harvest being of 148,887 tons and an average productivity on the country of four tons of barley per one hectare.

The harvest has been collected from about 12 per cent of the sowed area in the first two weeks after the starting of the campaign of harvesting the first-group cereals.

About 318,000 hectares of wheat were sowed in the 2021 agricultural year, which is by 4 per cent more against the year before, and 64,000 hectares of barley, - by 18 per cent more against 2020.
