Moldovan foreign affairs minister discusses with Italian diplomacy head

Chisinau, 14 May /MOLDPRES/ -Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Luigi di Maio, in the context of his working visit to Germany. The two officials expressed solidarity in condemning the military aggression against Ukraine and referred to the need of the social and economic recovery in the wake of the war and its impact on Moldova, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.    

The Moldovan diplomacy head thanked his Italian counterpart for the assistance provided in the management of Ukrainian refugees’ crisis, as well as for the financial contribution provided through the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), as well as the Migration Fund. This support is meant for strengthening Moldova’s capacities of receiving and hosting refugees.    

„I discussed with the Italian minister also possibilities of cooperation in the energy sector, relying on Italy’s experience in the development of initiatives due to strengthen the country’s resilience. For the benefit of the Diaspora, we agreed on advancing the bilateral discussions for concluding an agreement on the cutting of the roaming tariffs,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu stressed.

At the same time, the diplomats exchanged opinions on the regional situation, as well as the developments in the Transnistrian region of Moldova. Deputy PM Nicu Popescu praised Italy’s support for Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
