Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - The crisis of refugees and the Moldovans’ effort to help those who fled the war from the neighbor country have been the key subjects of a meeting between President Maia Sandu and Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendia, Bucharest-based Apostolic Nuncio in Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
The representative of the Holy See came to Chisinau, in order to personally convey to the head of state the appreciation of Pope Francis for the solidarity and generosity proved by the Moldovan citizens for the refugees from Ukraine.
President Maia Sandu thanked for the warm words, noting that this effort was, first of all, of Moldova’s citizens, who had immediately responded to the need of those who found themselves in difficulty. The head of state also appreciated the assistance received by Moldova on this period through charity organizations of the Vatican. In the end, President Maia Sandu expressed gratitude for the way the spiritual leader of the Catholic Church was promoting the idea of peace and dialogue between civilizations and nations and reiterated confidence that the war must stop.
