Discover Moldova with #MOLDPRES: Town where goats have town hall, police department, post office and even currency

16:02 | 03.07.2023 Category: Tourist Moldova

Last year, "a new town" was set on the map of Moldova called "Kozy", where 60 goats lived. Today, the number of "residents" has reached 110, and mayor of the city Marcel continues his mandate with dignity. This week, MOLDPRES invites you to Pohrebea village, Dubăsari district, to discover a unique destination, magical in some places, which will take you out of your daily routine and recharge your batteries in just a few hours.

"Kozy" - the city where goats have priority

The idea of a goat town was brought from Ukraine by Olga Kopylova, and the design and infrastructure were conceived by architect Serghei Mîrza.

The animals live in freedom, in their own city, with streets, houses, and even have a "town hall", "police station", "post office" and an "art gallery".

Currently, the "Kozy town" hosts 110 goats. Each of them has a name.

It is curious that it has its own currency, called "kozy coin".

“Any product in the city can only be bought with those coins. It's like entering another country and using foreign currency," the administrator told us.

The coins can be bought at the currency exchange: a "kozy coin" costs 25 Moldovan lei.

What happens behind the decorations

On weekdays, 10 employees work on the territory of the city, and on weekends, when there are more visitors, their number reaches 20.

Olga Gherb is born in Coșnița village, but has been living in Pohrebea for 20 years. She has been employed there since inauguration.

Future plans

Glamping* is becoming increasingly popular in the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Many tourists prefer to spend their mini-vacation in the middle of nature, having all the facilities of a hotel stay at their disposal. Currently, 13 cottages are being built on the territory of the city where visitors will be able to stay overnight.

Although the number of goats has almost doubled in a year, the founders do not plan to sell them.

"There are plans to open such cities in several countries, so we are not afraid of their multiplication. Some of them will most likely move to another city," the business manager, Stas Macovenco, told us.

Stas also told us that in the future the city could host other animals.

There are organized concerts and other events. You can find the schedule of activities on their Facebook page. No prior appointment is needed to visit the city.

* The concept of "glamping" appeared in Great Britain in 2005 as a result of the combination of the words "glamour" and "camping". It is a new type of ecotourism, all-inclusive recreation in nature.
