145 performance athletes to get scholarships

Chisinau, Feb. 7 /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) will earmark monthly 2.6 million lei (132 thousand euros) for awarding scholarships to performance athletes who achieved outstanding success in 2023 at the World and European Championships, as well as the Universiade.

Scholarships will be awarded during the year. Their value is between 6,850 lei and 41,100 lei, depending on the performance. In total, 145 athletes will benefit from scholarships.

According to the MEC, this year the list of athletes who will benefit from scholarships has been expanded. In this context, performance athletes will receive monthly scholarships for places 1-16, obtained at the World Championships, 1-12 at the European Championships and places 1-6 at the World Universiade, which are held once every two years.

So far, financial means from the state have been awarded only for gold, silver or bronze medals - first, second and third place. 17 athletes benefited from it.
