Operative work of Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office risks being blocked

Chisinau, April 2 /MOLDPRES/ - The operative work of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office is at risk of being blocked as a result of legislative amendments that came into force on 1 April 2024. According to them, "the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has remained completely uncovered on operational assurance of the relevant files," according to a today's statement by the head of the institution, Veronica Dragalin.

"That is, for corruption offences at the highest level (committed by special subjects such as ministers, deputies, judges, prosecutors), our institution does not have the human and material resources to ensure visual tracking, interceptions, transmission of money under control and other special investigation measures," Dragalin said.

"If the heads of state institutions refuse to allow the use of public spaces in the public interest, we will rather have no students, no teachers, no academics in our country as a result of corruption. Without urgent strengthening of the institution responsible for fighting high-level corruption we send the wrong message that the fight against corruption, justice and the rule of law is not a priority for our country. Our citizens deserve better", Dragalin said.
