Israel provides 300,000 euros for modernising phytosanitary laboratory in Moldova

Chisinau, 26 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Israeli government has provide 300,000 euros for modernising a phyto-sanitary laboratory of the Quarantine Centre of Products from Moldova, which will allow finding out genetically modified organisms in the agricultural products. A memorandum in this respect was signed by Moldovan Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vasile Bumacov and Israeli Ambassador to Moldova Oren David today.
Bumacov said this laboratory was one of the most modern in the region. “To be able to find out genetically modified products, very sophisticated devices are necessary. With the financial support provided by Israel, we will have a laboratory able to approach the entire phyto-sanitary range for vegetable products, so that consumers have no objections,” Bumacov said.
For his part, Oren David assured that the Israeli side would endow the laboratory with modern equipment, to discover genetically modified organisms, would help set devices and train staff.
“We are confident that this project will contribute to standardising and exporting Moldovan agricultural products, so that people residing abroad could benefit from them,” Oren David said.
The respective laboratory was created with the financial support of Israel, Romania, Norway, Germany and the USA. The project’s total amount is of about 2.5 million euros.
