Moldovan economics minister meets Romanian officials

Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Stephane Bride today met representatives of Renovatio Group (Romania) and the International Financial Corporation (IFC) Office in Romania, an entity that is part of the World Bank group, the Economics Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.

During the meeting, the Vulcanesti wind energy project was presented, which was jointly developed by IFC and Renovatio. The project involves the construction of a park with 60 wind turbines, at a capacity of 120 MW. The company planned the commissioning of the park till 2016.

Stephane Bride welcomed this initiative and said that Moldova would be able to ensure energy security by diversifying sources of energy, including from renewable sources. "The implementation of renewable energy projects is an alternative future for Moldova. As it is known, in Europe, photovoltaics, wind turbines and other natural energy sources have an important share in the total consumption of the country", the deputy prime minister said.

According to the Renovatio Group company representatives, the Vulcanesti wind farm will generate electricity of around 430-500 GWh annually, which will provide about 10 per cent -13 per cent of the total annual electricity consumption in Moldova. Company representatives informed that Renovatio had the technical connection to the electric grid, land for construction, feasibility study, geotechnical and topographical survey, environmental impact assessment. Subsequently it remains to complete the connection contract and obtain building permits. After the completion of the works, the company will obtain an electricity generation license from the National Agency for Energy Regulation.

Renovatio is a multinational company with activities in the field of renewable energy: both wind energy, as well as solar power. The company was founded in 2003, and in 2005 it began its work as a supplier of electricity on the liberalised market in Romania.
