Moldovan president has consultations with Liberals, Democrats, Liberal Democrats

15:03 | 27.11.2015 Category: Political

Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Nicolae Timofti today had consultations with parliamentary factions, in order to nominate a candidate for the office of prime minister. MPs of the Liberal Party (PL), Democratic Party (PDM) and Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) came to the meetings, while those of the factions of the Party of Communists (PCRM) and Party of Socialists (PSRM) refused to participate in discussions.

The PDM lawmakers, who were first to come to the consultations, said following the discussions, that a candidate for the position of prime minister might be nominated in the next two weeks after talks with the other parliamentary factions.

"We have informed the president that we must come up with a proposal for the post of prime minister till 10 December at the latest. PDM does not come with predetermined recipes, we do not have this candidacy, it must appear as a result of negotiations and consultations. What matters is that the future prime minister should have the support of at least 50 MPs," PDM leader Marian Lupu said.

PL leader Mihai Ghimpu reiterated that, as long as PLDM did not sit down at the table of negotiations with the other political formations, neither a majority can be created nor a government, that will get the needed number of votes in the parliament, can be formed. "Unfortunately, as long as PLDM does not participate in the talks, it is impossible for us to have a majority. We hope that the Liberal Democrats will change their stance, so that the cabinet be voted," Mihai Ghimpu said.

For his part, a PLDM lawmaker Vadim Pistrinciuc, after the meeting with the head of state, said the Liberal Democrats maintained their position, stressing that a final decision would be taken following the PLDM political council. "I want to say that we are confused, as, on the one hand, we are invited to the table of discussions, and on the other hand, the rhetoric is aggressive and manipulating. As early as on Monday, 30 November, we will have another political council, and we will discuss with the colleagues. The circumstances have slightly changed, following the Constitutional Court's ruling," Vadim Pistrinciuc added.

The government of the Alliance for European Integration III (AIE III), led by Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet, was dismissed with the votes of 65 PDM, PCRM and PSRM MPs on 29 October 2015. Afterwards, the PDM leadership informed about the starting of talks on the creation of a new ruling coalition.
