Jubilee edition of Moldovan international Martisor music festival concludes

Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/- The 50th edition of “Martisor” International Music Festival took place at Nicolae Sulac National Palace in Chisinau, on 29 February-11 March. The festival ended yesterday with a performance by Moldovan singer Valy Boghean and his band.

Along with Valy Boghean&band, performing on he stage were also the “Crenguta de Iedera” (Ivy Branch) ethnic-folk group of the Moldovan State University, headed by singer Maria Iliut, “Iedera” (Ivy) Studio of the Artico Republican Centre for Children and Youth, headed by Osoianu sisters, as well as singers Mihail Pascalov and Ala Adarov from Tvardita, and many others.

Singer Valy Boghean said it was a great honor for him to perform at the closure of the most known festival in Moldova. 

“I did not expect such a surprise from the Culture Ministry. We are a relatively young band. I came in front of the people with more of my songs, some of them older, others newer. I am glad that I and my colleagues were offered the pleasure to present the closing show of this important event for our cultural life,” Boghean said. 

Attending the event was also the secretary general of Moldova's National Commission for Moldova, Constantin Rusnac. He said the 2016 edition of Martisor festival stood out through the diversity of the music performed by great artists. 

“It was a special event, with Moldovan and foreign artists. The festival is now famous all over the world. In 2016, it started on 29 February and ended one day later. I have recently been called by Lacombe Pascal and Pierre Migard from France, as well as by the famous Russian-born German violinist Olga Volkova, who voiced their willingness to participate in the next edition of Martisor festival, “ Rusnac said. 

The jubilee edition of Martisor Festival comprised 45 concerts, including 17 concerts performed in 13 Moldovan districts. Attending the festival were bands and artists from 11 countries. 

Artists like opera singer Azamat Jeltîrguzov, from Kazachstan, Moldova-born soprano Natalia Gavrilan from Italian La Scala theater, Japanese Tomoko Siromoto pianist, American accordionist Stas Venglevski along with other international stars, participated in the festival.

This year, the festival extended to Romania, Ukraine, Italy, USA and other countries.

Martisor International Music Festival was initiated by Alexandru Fedco and Gleb Ceaicovschi-Meresanu in 1966.
