Chisinau, 18 March /MOLDPRES/ - An inter-community enterprise from the Peresecina village, central Orhei district, today received farm machinery within a project, Clima East, financially backed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Project (UNDP).

Due to the project, 500 ha of lawns of the Orhei National Park are re-established and maintained to get a better quality and a larger quantity of fodder. The enterprise Prosper Rural, supported by EU, serves the lawns of the villages Peresecina, Samananca, Donici and Teleseu, from which over 12,500 residents benefit.

“The climate changes represent a real challenge for the communities from everywhere. The European Union provides considerable assistance to settlements on the perimeter of the Orhei National Park, to re-establish valuable lawns and woods, in order to contribute to attenuating and adapting to the effects of climate changes,” Chief for Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Moldova Aneil Singh has said at the ceremony.

For his part, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Moldova Narine Sahakyan stressed that a national park had been set up for the first time ever in Orhei, to conserve the national heritage, as well as to enhance the economic and social well-being of the local communities. “Relying on a major progress in the environment sector, we continued investing in the Orhei National Park, so that the latter serves as a model of sustainable regional development, in line with the best European practices,” Narine Sahakyan added.

The Clima East project is carried out in 2013-2016, with a budget of 535,000 euros, provided by the European Union.
