About 1,700 convicts to be amnestied on occasion of 25th anniversary of Moldova's independence

Chisinau, 29 July /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament has ruled to amnesty 1,700 prisoners, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Moldova's independence, according to a draft law adopted today in the second reading.
According to the document, "the persons who committed serious crimes" will not fall under the provisions of this law.
On this purpose, "about 5.7 million lei is to be earmarked from the state budget to pay release allowances. Another 150 thousand lei will be spent on procedures for enforcing the amnesty act, such as office expenses, postage and escort," reads the explanatory note annexed to the document.
