Over eight per cent of population vote by 10.00 a.m. in Moldova

Chisinau, 13 November /MOLDPRES/ – More than 241 thousand voter, that is 8,54 per cent were present at the ballot boxes by 10.00 a.m.

The first round of the presidential election up till present, about 298 thousand voters exercised their voting right, that is 10,53 per cent or with 2 per cent more than at present.

The chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Alina Russu said that all open polling stations were developing their activity in a normal way. "Over 48 per cent of voters are women and 52 per cent of voters are men. Out of the total number of people who have exercised their right to vote, about 6 per cent are citizens between 18 – 25 years old, over 18 per cent – between 26-40, over 27 per cent – between 41 – 55, over 37 per cent are between 56 – 70 and about 9 per cent are over 71 years old," said Russu.

"At the same time, the constituency which has recorded the highest voters’ turnout is Rezina (over 7 per cent), the lowest one being in Nisporeni (4,26 per cent). The localities with the most active voters is Pokrovka in Donduseni (22,14 per cent), while the most passive residents are in Cotelea, Briceni district (1 per cent). The polling station which has recorded the highest voters’ turnout is station no. 211 of Riscani sector (over 62 per cent)", said Alina Russu.

The CEC’s chairman said that there have voted 9,883 citizens abroad, or 3,93 per cent. "The countries which recorded the highest frequency of the electoral process are: the Russian Federation, Italy and Romania," said Russu.

Up to 10.00 a.m., there had not been filed any appeals to CEC on contenders’ electoral actions or on decisions and/or actions taken by lower electoral bodies.

At the same time, CEC’s member Maxim Lebedinschii said that in Moldova there were many technical problems related to electric power interruption due to adverse weather conditions.

Today in Moldova is conducted the runoff of direct presidential elections. The first preliminary data on the election results will be announced at about 22.00 hours.
