Voter turnout at runoff - 53 per cent of citizens with right to vote

Chisinau, 14 November /MOLDPRES/- The voter turnout at the 13 November presidential polls was of 1,610 million citizens with right to vote (53 per cent). The Central Election Commission (CEC) made the statement after processing 99.9 per cent of the reports.

The voter turnout at the first round was of 49.18 per cent.

CEC head Alina Russu said that the highest turnout rate had been registered in Chisinau municipality, where 383,000 citizens (54.3 per cent) voted. In Cantemir district about 20,000 citizens (slightly over 41 per cent) participated in the vote.

Most active electors, 27 per cent, were persons aged between 26-40 years.

The constituency councils are offered 48 hours after closing the polling stations to unveil the report on results of district elections. Presently, two district councils are in the process of transmitting the electoral documents.

According to preliminary data, candidate of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon picked up 52.29 per cent of the votes and contender of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA) and Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Maia Sandu got 47.71 per cent of the ballots.
