Cabinet approves draft ratification of framework agreement Moldova – NEFCO

Chisinau, 30 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Cabinet of Ministers today approved the draft law for ratification of the Framework Agreement between Moldova and the Nordic Environmental Finance Corporation Organisation (NEFCO), signed in Chisinau on 21 July. The project will be submitted to the President for consideration.

The launch of NEFCO in Moldova will create a real opportunity for local authorities to finance projects in the field of energy efficiency, renewable energy and environment. Thus, it will be possible to rehabilitate buildings, centralized heat supply systems, renew and modernize fleets, solve problems related to wastewater management and municipal waste, said the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure.

The Government of Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed the Contribution Agreement on the participation of Moldova in the Eastern European Energy Efficiency Partnership (ESP) Regional Fund. Throughout that tool, the Executive can earn €150 million, out of which about €30 million is the grant component. NEFCO is one of the international financial institutions that assumes the role of Agency for the implementation of projects funded by ESP.
