Similar candidacy of defence minister of Moldova to be submitted repeatedly

Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip will reiterate the candidacy of Eugen Sturza for the position of Minister of Defence today. The statement was made by the Premier at the government meeting’s start.

The Prime Minister stated that he received the written refusal of the head of state, Igor Dodon, to appoint Eugen Sturza as head of the Defence Ministry. "The arguments put forward by the President are absolutely absurd, so I will repeat the candidacy of the same person. If Igor Dodon refuses to appoint the proposed candidate, it means that he is consciously violating the Constitution of Moldova, especially since there is a Constitutional Court ruling that the head of state may reject only once the nomination submitted by the government, but will be obliged to accepts it if it is proposed repeatedly," said Filip.

Also, the Prime Minister mentioned that "he did not understand the proposal of the President to appoint General Victor Gaiciuc as Defence Minister". "The President of the State and the Party of Socialists believe themselves to be a ruling party, otherwise I can not explain his proposal. I urge Mr. Dodon to descend on the ground and understand that Moldova is a parliamentary country and President has no authority to come up with proposals for the appointment of ministers," said Filip.

The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) announced on 12 September that Eugen Sturza was nominated for the office of defence minister by the parliamentary majority. The President of the Democrats, Vlad Plahotniuc, specified that Sturza was the only candidacy of the party and, if rejected by Moldovan President, Igor Dodon, then PDM would propose him repeatedly.

The head of state announced that he rejected Sturza's candidacy for the position of Minister of Defence and proposed General Victor Gaiciuc in that position today.
